The Car and Engine
The car is a Ginetta, a marque that originated in the UK in 1958, and which is renowned for making
beautiful road-going race-cars. The model being used for our 2008 Bonneville Land Speed record attempt is a 1967 Ginetta G4, serial number 264.
Between 1961 and 1969 over 500 Ginetta G4’s were produced. They are very sought after and were extremely successful on the UK racing circuit in the 1960’s. Ginetta G4’s are currently being raced in vintage racing events around the world. The marque has been featured in many places including the prestigious Goodwood festival of speed.
The marque is still being made today and has a devoted following in the US, Europe and especially Japan.
Check out our Gallery for some great pictures and videos of Ginetta G4’s.
We will be using our 1967 Ginetta G4, serial number 264, for both our record attempts (check out the ‘Record’ page) and we will also be using the same engine in both attempts.
Our engine is a rare 1966 Cosworth MAE which was originally used in a Cooper T67 F3 car, then later got transplanted into a Cooper T71 F2 car. It is in fully original condition, and makes 123 hp and revs to 12 000 rpm. See the engine in action in the Cooper T71 here.
The blocks used by Cosworth for the MAE were 105e/109e and are therefore Ginetta period correct
